These products utilize proprietary copolymers and cements, achieving extremely high compressive strengths shortly after installation. The elevated compressive values ensure that the floor assembly consistently passes all 14 cycles of the ASTM C627 Robinson Floor test for most applications. This "Extra Heavy Duty" rating is essential for floors subject to heavy traffic and large equipment, such as scissor lifts and pallet jacks. Additionally, self-leveling applications can be used over hydronic tubing or electric radiant heat systems. Specific assemblies over wood joists or plywood can accommodate light commercial or standard residential service, depending on the installation details.
The versatility of cement-based self-levelers enables pours ranging from 1/4 inch to 1.5 inches in a single pass. Self-leveling concrete products can also be feather-edged to facilitate transitions to other floor finishes. The allowable thickness varies according to the specific formulation. Certain proprietary formulations provide an extended set for pumping, making them suitable for high ambient temperatures or large spans requiring extra time for material floating. The quick curing rates of these materials enable fast-setting underlayments or overlays, allowing for tile or hardwood floor installation as soon as 4 hours after placement, and 14-18 hours for resilient flooring or concrete microtoppings.
