Having owned both the Onan 4kw and Westerbeke 4kw generators, I can confidently say that the sound shield plays a vital role in noise reduction. The sound shield for the Onan is so effective that the hum of the fridge in the galley completely drowns out the generator's noise.
While the Westerbeke also features a well-designed shield, it tends to be a bit louder, offering sound levels similar to that of the fridge.

It's worth noting that the soft splashing of exhaust beneath the wheelhouse door can be just as audible, if not more so. If the exhaust were routed a few inches lower or directed out the stern, it would likely reduce noise further. On particularly calm days, we keep the door closed to mitigate any fume exposure, which also contributes to noise reduction.

Overall, with a quality factory-installed sound shield, the noise level is not concerning at all.

A Diesel Oxidation Catalyst, or "DOC," is a device that reduces emissions from diesel engines by converting them into less harmful substances. The DOC features a honeycomb structure coated in a catalyst, fostering a chemical reaction to minimize damaging emissions. It can oxidize harmful hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO), transforming them into non-hazardous water and carbon dioxide. This technology can lead to emission reductions of up to 90%. Installed Cold Start Pre-heater

All generators in the Ramsond Elite series include a pre-heater glow plug element. This glow plug remains active in the air intake passage, aiding the diesel fuel mixture in vaporizing properly during cold starts, making ignition easier. Additionally, it has been shown to enhance the generator's efficiency.

Electrical Starter with Wireless Remote Control
