More often than not it is all dependant on various circumstances that would help you make this decision. For instance, if you do not have enough room to close a swing gate/s once you have parked your vehicle on the driveway, you may wish to consider a sliding gate, although you must have enough room for this to fully open into. Some customers prefer a sliding gate & others swing gates, although by sending us imagery on or visiting you at your property, we would be able to advise you of the best solution.

Safe and reliable gates are a necessity in the UK, of course your gate can be automated and by discussing various options, we could tailor-make a full working system to suit your exact requirements. All Horizal gates have solid infill frames for the equipment to attach to, ensuring strength when operational in adverse weather conditions. Following a full risk assessment by our experts, we install all necessary safety devices such as photocells, safety edges or loop detectors to make sure there is no possibility of vehicle, human or animal entrapment whatsoever. Not only this, we force-test the gates, CE mark the system and issue handover certification with how to use the system in a safe way. Automatic gate systems should give you many years of satisfactory service and by choosing a reputable company such as ourselves, we offer a full warranty for 12 months from installation completion, with a yearly Service & Maintenance contract offered after that, to give you complete peace of mind.
If in the event of a power cut to the gates, there is a manual release mechanism on all motors, allowing you to disengage this using a key & open or close the gate manually. Once the power is restored, the motor can be re-engaged and the gates will work automatically again. It is very important that these manual release mechanisms are serviced on a regular basis, to prevent them from seizing and not releasing, leaving you “locked” in or out of your property. At handover of any new installation, our engineers will hand over the manual release key (which should be kept in a safe place) & show you what to do as part of your training.
Generally speaking hand held remote transmitters can work from 20 to 30 metres away from the Gates.
Remotes (fobs, zappers, clickers, blippers etc.) work on a radio wave frequency and actual range will depend on various local environmental factors such as trees & foliage, stone walls, overhead electricity, heated car windscreens & weather conditions. An additional radio antenna can be fitted which can, in most cases, offer extra range. To avoid having different transmitters for any other remotely controlled devices within your property, the other buttons may be programmed to open a second gate, a garage door or even operate outside lighting. Each extra device will need an additional radio receiver installed to accept the same remote control transmitter.
You would automatically receive two hand held remote transmitters for opening and closing your gates. These are normally attached to your car-keys to operate from a vehicle and you would have an option to purchase more of these for other members of your family. As for additional access control equipment, you would need to talk to us about who you want to let in or let them out again and identify primary, secondary, unexpected or other users. Primary users are you, your family, close friends and relatives. All could have remote controls or there are other options to consider.
By installing a Keypad, you could issue a 4-digit code to trusted persons such as close neighbours, postmen or regular delivery / collection companies. For less secure situations the gates can be held open on a ‘timed’ basis, during key periods of daylight hours and programmed to close in the evening, in very much the same way as you would operate your central heating.
By installing an intercom (with or without a keypad) – This would allow you to identify a person before deciding whether or not to let them in, issue the keypad code to trusted persons which can be changed for security and is ideal for identifying unwanted or unexpected visitors. We have a large range of options such as GSM, video, wireless & hard-wired types and our team of experts would explain all of their different benefits.
When leaving your property you can open your gates via your remote transmitters, your internal intercom handset or you may also wish to consider a ground loop on the inside of your property which automatically recognises the magnetic field & direction of a vehicle for free-exit. A standalone keypad should your gates be programmed to automatically close, is a also popular option for visitors leaving.
1. Are Ultra Aluminum™ fences and railing easy to maintain?
Yes,
Ultra Aluminum™ fences and railing are made from high-strength Ultrum™ Alloy
with a minimum 35,000 psi, so they are durable and will not rust. Our
Powercoat™ finish ™ is twice the thickness and hardness of typical wet coatings,
making it more fade- and scratch-resistant, so the color will stay true. In
most cases, a simple spray from a garden hose will suffice in keeping Ultra fencing
looking good.
2. What colors are available?
Ultra Fencing, Railing, Gates and Designer Accessories are available in seven classic
colors – Gloss Black, Textured Black, Gloss Bronze, Textured Bronze, Textured Khaki, Gloss White, Textured White & (Premium) Silver. Custom specified hues may be special ordered. View large color chart.
3. Which Ultra Aluminum™ fences are safe for pool enclosures?
Ultra
designs fencing to meet all the stringent BOCA pool safety codes, and to enhance
your property at the same time.
Most notably, the bottom rail can be flush with the bottom of the fence, so no pickets are exposed. All pool fence sections come factory pre-assembled in 6’ lengths with a broad offering of heights— 48”, 54”, 60”, and 72”. Custom lengths and heights available.
Some fence styles may not comply based on height and other factors. It’s important to check all local codes before ordering your Ultra Aluminum™ fence product.
Several Ultra Residential styles are specifically designed to comply with BOCA code; click here to view Ultra’s line of pool-safety Residential Fencing.
4. Will Ultra Aluminum™ fences contain my dog, and keep other animals
out?
To ensure the safety of pets, Ultra recommends our UAF-201 and UAS-101 styles;
Residential Series and Residential Series Premium with 1-5/8” picket spacing,
or Commercial Series and Commercial Series Premium with 1-1/2” picket spacing.
Or you can choose to add short staggered pickets to the bottom of any fence style,
for a classic ‘puppy protection’ look.

5. Can Ultra Aluminum™ fences and railing be attached to structures (columns,
pillars or buildings)?
Yes, the fence panel can be joined to an end post that has been butted up to the
structure itself; or the fence panel can attach directly to the structure using rail
ends. Rail ends are available in three designs: standard, adjustable horizontally,
and adjustable vertical.
6. Can Ultra Aluminum™ fences be installed on hills or severely graded
properties?
Yes, standard Ultra Aluminum™ fencings will rack up to 4 inches. Rackable and Heavy Rackable
options are also available for more severe changes in grade at no extra charge.
7. Can Ultra Aluminum™ fences be stepped to conform to a slope?
Yes, the panels on each side of the post can be attached at different points on the
post, enabling one panel to be positioned lower than the other. Ultra carries
a variety of attachment accessories that allow for easy stepping of fence sections.
8. Can Ultra Aluminum™ fences be installed in a rounded or curved
configuration, or sharp angles?
Yes, fence panels can be shifted directionally up to 30 degrees; this slight
adjustment at each post creates a rounded effect. Tighter curves may be achieved
using narrower panels, or standard panels may be cut. However, the panels must not
be rounded or bent, as this will compromise the structural integrity.
Horizontal and vertical adjustable rail ends are specifically designed to connect to
the horizontal rail of the fence panel, making it possible to negotiate sharp
angles. Adjustable mounting brackets can be attached to structures such as
pillars, columns or other posts.
9. Are Ultra Aluminum™ gates fully welded?
Yes, Ultra Aluminum™ Gates are
fastened and 100% welded at all connections and joints for durability and safety.
10. What types of gates are offered by Ultra Aluminum™?
Ultra
offers a wide variety of gates in all grades. Walk gates, Drive gates, Estate gates,
Roll gates, and Cantilever gates are all available.
11. Can Ultra Aluminum™ fences and gates be customized?
Yes, Ultra offers factory-engineered custom widths and heights by special order with
a modest up-charge.
12. How do Ultra Aluminum™ fence panels attach to posts?
Ultra Aluminum™ fence panels can be attached to the posts in three ways:
The most common installation uses a punch post method. Here the fence is installed by inserting the horizontal rails of the fence into receiving holes in the post, which have been punched in the factory.
The second method utilizes standard and adjustable rail ends. This installation allows you to install your post first and later attaching the fence sections to the post with rail ends.
The third method is similar to the second, but rather than using rail ends the fence sections are attached to the post with an Ultra Strap™. The Ultra Strap allows you to set your post first and later attach the sections with the strap, which slides over the post.
13. Can Signature Railing be installed on porches, balconies and
decks?
Yes, Signature Railing is ICC (International Commercial Code) compliant –
strong enough to meet or exceed all building codes for railings. Signature Railing
system utilizes a two-piece design that withstands considerably more lateral force
than code requires.
14. Can Ultra Aluminum™ fence be used as railing?
Ultra Aluminum™ does not recommend or condone using its fences for safe use as
railing. Ultra does not assume liability for improper, unintended, or illegal use of
its products. Code compliance is the sole responsibility of the contractor.
15. Where can I purchase an Ultra Aluminum™ fence?
Ultra does not sell directly to the public; please fill out the questionnaire in the contact
section and Ultra will be happy to recommend fence contractors in your area.
16. How long does it take to get my Ultra Aluminum™ fence or railing?
Fence orders generally arrive approximately two weeks after purchase is made, and
railing orders generally arrive four weeks after purchase is made. Lead times for
all products remain consistent even during the busy season.
